Experience

New Bamboo thoughtbot

Nov 2012 --- Present

As a developer at thoughtbot, Dan works directly with the client to ensure optimal client success, which is achieved by working within a pragmatic and well-defined Scrum framework, running User Story Workshops and helping clients to understand the process. Dan works with the team to plan sprints every week and to run demos to show the progress to date.

thoughtbot works mostly with Ruby on Rails and delivers high-quality, well tested code.

New Bamboo became thoughtbot London in November 2015.

Pixelhum

Aug 2010 --- Apr 2015

Launched Pixelhum in 2010, providing freelance and contract-based services to clients. Designed and built web applications for clients using Ruby on Rails.

WebBased Ltd

Dec 2011 --- Nov 2012

Continued the development of a CRM product built using Ruby on Rails 2.3. Migrated version control from SVN to git and brought the Rspec test suite up to date.

Abiquo

June 2010 --- Oct 2011

Updated and maintained Abiquo's websites, which were written in both PHP and Ruby on Rails. Rebuilt their virtual image exchange site, Thunderflash, using Ruby on Rails 3.

Deep Blue Sound

Aug 2008 --- June 2010

Administered and augmented the existing web systems including Moodle, SugarCRM and others. Deputised for the System Administrator.

Footwork Solutions

Nov 2002 --- Aug 2008

Served as a lead developer and designer on the Halo care co-ordination system, which included training, documentation and support. Served as the System Administrator for both the local network and remote server farm.

Granite Internet

2000 --- 2002

Designed, developed and maintained several property company websites built upon a single code base. Setup Windows, Linux and FreeBSD servers.

North Devon Journal

1998 --- 2000

Set advertisements using QuarkXpress and was responsible for laying out the classified pages. Developed a love of typography.
